Pink Pop Up Party

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, I had the opportunity to walk the runway alongside some very special people. A group of Fairfielders donned local fashions from Penfield Collective, Swim N Surf and The Perfect Pair to help raise money for the Norma Pfreim Breast Center, an amazing resource for survivors, those undergoing treatment and their families — right here in Fairfield County.

Thanks to friends and family, I raised $1,700 for the cause and was named Top Model (a title that had nothing to do with looks or popularity).

Admittedly I was nervous to walk the runway in front of everyone. I wasn’t worried about falling, but more that people would wonder why someone with my body type would be walking. One of my close friends recently underwent treatment for breast cancer and subsequently lost her hair from chemotherapy (it’s now growing back better than ever!).

I know she was incredibly self conscious about being bald, but we all thought she was beautiful and incredibly brave. Seeing a friend go through something so traumatic helped me put any negative thoughts into perspective, and encouraged me to be thankful for my health, curves and long hair. At the end of the day, we should always count our blessings.
